“The parables should disturb, unless there’s something seriously amiss with our moral compass.” AJ Levine, Old Testament scholar
In Short Stories by Jesus: The Enigmatic Parables of a Controversial Rabbi, Jewish scholar Amy-Jill Levine reveals that Christ’s teachings say “don’t wait, act now” in order to thwart violence, injustice and intolerance.
Amy-Jill Levine has authored or edited more than a dozen books about the Scriptures and was the first Jew to teach New Testament at Rome’s Pontifical Biblical Institute. She describes herself as an unorthodox member of an Orthodox synagogue who works to counter biblical interpretations that exclude and oppress. She is currently the Rabbi Stanley M. Kessler Distinguished Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Hartford International University for Religion and Peace.
